In the process of being recruited by the Mobile Experience Lab to help with the development of the Mindfulness Technologies project, I was presented with an opportunity to attend the GRAND conference in Montreal. The conference took place May 2-4 and was held almost entirely within the beautiful Le Centre Sheraton hotel–with the exception of the NFB event over at Concordia University. I was very impressed with the innovation across different projects from institutions all over Canada. Although I don’t have much in the way of pictures from GRAND 2012, a few highlights include: robotic simulation of animals and their behaviour, a chair that moves in correspondence with a style of music, and real-time 3D drawing. There was also a great discussion on ‘ludic engagement as real research’.
All in all, a great success–I look forward to GRAND 2013.
